Yaxham Light Railway

No 2 - Rusty is an ‘R’ type loco manufactured by R. A. Lister & Co. Ltd. of Dursley (works No 32801), built in 1948 to 1’ 8” gauge for work hauling rubbish at Kensington refuse destruction plant, where its 600cc J.A.P. engine was soon changed to a Scammell 4-cylinder water-cooled petrol engine.

In 1964 the locos, track and wagons were purchased by Potter Bros. for use at their concrete plant at Wells station, moving with the works to Hardingham station in 1968.

In 1975 all the railway equipment was rescued from dereliction and moved to Yaxham. This loco was regauged to 2 ft. and re-engined with a Ruston & Hornsby 5hp single cylinder air-cooled diesel engine in 1978.
